FAQ

Straight answers to what clients ask us most, from a first idea for a room to a finished, running installation.

01I need sound for my restaurant, where do I start?
Start with the rooms and how they are used. We design and install multi-zone audio for restaurants so every area sits at the right volume, integrated with lighting into one system your staff controls without technical know-how.
02I'm looking for good lighting for my museum or exhibition.
We design exhibition lighting that becomes part of the display, per-fixture control with DALI, automatic scene sequences, and manual override, so curators can run it without touching any technical settings.
03What lighting and sound do I need for a gym or fitness studio?
We build systems that follow your class schedule automatically: warm-up, training and cool-down scenes across light, sound and video, with independent audio zones set at the right level per room.
04Audio and lighting for a boxing or high-energy gym?
We deliver show-control systems that run fully automated sequences and let a DJ or trainer trigger live cues across LED ceilings and effects, with no operator needed on the technical side.
05Sound and light for my bar, café or nightclub?
We integrate audio, lighting and video into one controllable system with scenes for different moments of the night, switchable from a panel or triggered automatically by time.
06AV and lighting for a retail store or showroom?
We specify and install lighting, sound and video that make products look and sound their best, tuned per zone and simple for staff to operate day to day.
07Can I control light, sound and video from one system?
Yes, that is our core. We integrate lighting, audio and video into a single show-control layer so everything runs in sync, with no drift between systems.
08I want lighting scenes that run automatically but can be overridden.
We program automatic scene sequences, triggered by schedule or event, with manual override via buttons or a panel, so the space runs itself but you stay in control.
09Can my staff operate the system without technical knowledge?
Yes. We design operation around buttons, panels and presets, and provide user training, so non-technical staff run the installation confidently from day one.
10My space has echo or uneven sound, can that be fixed with the right system?
We design audio zoned and level-set per room based on use and occupancy, so volume and coverage are right everywhere instead of one loud source fighting the room.
11What is show control and do I need it?
Show control is one system that drives lighting, sound and video together on cues and schedules. You need it when you want multiple systems to act as one, reliably, without a technician standing by.
12Do you design a custom system or just sell equipment?
Both. We develop a bespoke design from your concept or drawings, then source premium equipment, install it, program it and support it, end to end.
13Do you handle the whole project, from design to installation?
Yes, design and engineering, equipment supply, installation and commissioning, and ongoing project management and support are all handled in-house.
14Do you provide maintenance and support after installation?
Yes. After commissioning we provide maintenance, software and firmware updates, remote diagnostics and on-site service, so the system keeps performing as it ages.
15Do you work with DMX or DALI lighting control?
Yes, we design and program with professional standards including DMX and DALI for per-fixture precision and reliable, repeatable scene control.
16Who installs professional AV and show-control systems in Amsterdam or the Netherlands?
Skidson designs, supplies, installs and supports lighting, sound, video and show-control systems in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam and across the Netherlands.
17Can you design custom fixtures or products, not just off-the-shelf gear?
Yes, alongside premium sourced equipment we develop custom concepts and fixtures, designed as finished objects rather than just kit. See our Concepts for examples.
18How does a project with you work, step by step?
Four stages: (1) design and engineering from your concept, (2) sourcing premium equipment, (3) installation, programming and testing with user training, and (4) project management, maintenance and support.
19Light, sound and video for a hotel?
We handle the whole system across lobby, restaurant, bar and event spaces, on one control layer with consistent scenes that staff can run without technical knowledge.
20AV and lighting for an office or corporate workspace?
We design lighting, sound and video that fit how the space is used through the day, from focused work light to presentation and event modes, switchable from a simple panel.
21A system for a theatre, event hall or multipurpose venue?
We build show control that stores different setups as scenes, so one room can switch between a talk, a concert and a dinner without re-patching anything.
22Immersive lighting for a spinning or indoor cycling studio?
Yes. We build systems such as a digital LED ceiling above the bikes that the instructor drives live from an iPad, so light, colour and intensity follow the ride.
23Sound and lighting for a spa, wellness or sauna area?
We design calm, zoned lighting and audio set at the right level per area, with easy scene changes for day and evening, built to hold up in warm and humid spaces.
24AV and lighting for a church or house of worship?
We integrate lighting, sound and projection so services and events run from simple presets, with clear speech everywhere and volunteers able to operate it confidently.
25Lighting and sound for an immersive attraction or experience space?
We build show control that runs timed, repeatable sequences across light, sound and video, triggered automatically or on cue, so every visit lands the same way.
26What is the difference between DMX and DALI?
DMX is made for dynamic, show-style control of colour and movement. DALI is made for precise, addressable control of architectural fixtures. We use each where it fits, and often both in one system.
27What is dim-to-warm lighting?
Light that shifts from a crisp white at full output to a soft warm glow as it dims, like an incandescent bulb fading. It keeps a space feeling warm at low levels, which suits hospitality and retail.
28What is multi-zone audio and do I need it?
It means each area has its own volume and source, set for how that space is used. So a bar, a dining room and a terrace can each sound right at the same time instead of one system fighting the room.
29Can I control everything from a phone or iPad?
Yes. Systems run from a wall panel, tablet or phone. An instructor can drive a room live from an iPad, or staff can switch scenes from one simple panel.
30How much does a system like this cost?
Every system is scoped to the space and the brief, so there is no fixed price. Tell us the rooms, the effect you want and a rough budget, and we come back with a design and equipment list that fits it.
31How long does design and installation take?
It depends on scope and whether it is a new build or a running venue. We give a realistic schedule as part of the design stage and plan the install around your programme.
32Can you work with our architect, interior designer or contractor?
Yes. We regularly work alongside them during a build or renovation, from the drawings onward, so lighting, sound and video are designed into the space rather than added on top.
33Can you upgrade or integrate our existing lighting and audio?
Often yes. We assess what you have, keep what is worth keeping in a new control layer and replace only what holds the system back, and we tell you honestly which parts are worth reusing.
34Do you do temporary or event installations, or only permanent ones?
Both. Our focus is fixed installations that keep running, but we also design and program systems for events and temporary setups where a space has to perform for a limited run.
35What brands and equipment do you work with?
We source premium professional equipment from trusted manufacturers and match the kit to the job rather than to one brand. We also design custom products, including items like the Sevensound TUNE 1 speaker.
36Can we get a quote or estimate before we commit?
Yes. After a short conversation and a look at the space or drawings, we give a system design with an equipment list and a clear quote, so you know the scope and cost before anything is ordered.
37Do you offer a free consultation or site visit to start?
Yes. We start from your concept, brief or drawings, and where useful a site survey, then come back with recommendations that balance performance, look and budget.
38Do you work across the Netherlands, or only in Amsterdam?
We work in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Rotterdam and across the Netherlands, and travel further for the right project.
39Do you offer a service contract or SLA after installation?
Yes. We offer ongoing support with an SLA, remote diagnostics and on-site service, so the system keeps performing and you have one number to call.
40Can you deliver a complete turnkey system from one supplier?
Yes. Design, equipment, installation, programming and support run through one team, so you deal with a single point of contact instead of coordinating trades yourself.
41Can you install around our opening hours without closing the venue?
Often yes. We plan the install around your programme and can phase the work, so a running venue keeps operating while the system goes in.
42Do you supply equipment only, if we have our own installer?
Yes. We can do design and premium equipment supply on their own, or the full install and programming, depending on what you need.
43Can you roll out the same system across multiple locations or a franchise?
Yes. We standardise a design so several sites run the same scenes and are equally easy to operate, with room for local differences.
44Do you provide training and documentation after handover?
Yes. We train your team on the day and hand over documentation, so staff can run the system and future technicians have what they need.
45Do you work with architects as a technical lighting and AV partner?
Yes. We come in from the drawings onward and engineer the lighting, sound, video and show control into the design, so the technical layer supports the concept instead of fighting it.
46Can you be the technical partner for an interior builder or shopfitter?
Yes. We take on the lighting, audio and control side of a fit-out, specified, supplied, installed and programmed, so you deliver a finished space without carrying the AV risk yourself.
47Do you work with exhibition and museum builders?
Yes. We design and install per-fixture controlled lighting, audio and media for exhibitions and museums, with automatic scenes and simple operation, built to match the maker's vision.
48Can you take the full lighting and AV package on a build or renovation?
Yes. We take the whole lighting, sound, video and show control scope as one package, coordinate with the other trades, and hand over a working, documented system.
